(Lake Forest) The Chicago Bears agreed to a one-year contract extension with tight end Marcedes Lewis on Monday.
Lewis caught four passes for 29 yards and a touchdown in 17 games with the Bears last season. He will therefore return to the Bears backfield, where tight ends Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett already find. The latter also accepted a contract for two seasons and 12 million US dollars as a free agent last March.
The Bears haven’t had a winning season since going 12-4 in 2018, but they hope to improve next season after selecting star quarterback Caleb Williams first overall in the last NFL draft .
Lewis, who is 40 years old, played 268 games over 18 seasons in the NFL. If he plays in four games this season, then he will surpass Jason Witten’s mark for most games played by a tight end in the NFL.
Lewis, who stands six feet six inches tall, has caught 436 career passes for 5,113 yards and 40 career touchdowns in the NFL. He spent 12 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and five more with the Green Bay Packers, before joining the Bears.
