(Lake Forest) The first pick in the last draft, Caleb Williams, will once again have to cope without one of his best wide receivers, Keenan Allen.
The latter will have to be absent for a second consecutive match due to a heel injury.
Allen will not travel with the team to Indianapolis for Sunday’s game against the Colts.
The Chicago Bears receiver has been bothered by a heel injury for a few weeks now, but coach Matt Eberflus said his condition is improving.
“He’ll be ready when he’s ready, when his body allows him to be ready,” Eberflus said. “We have a very good medical team and those guys are trying to get him back as quickly as possible.
“Keenan has worked hard to get there. The process is going well. He’s been out there, he’s been moving and trying to make some changes in direction. We’ll see where it takes us next week.”
Acquired from the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason, Allen caught four passes in the season opener, a win over the Tennessee Titans.
The 2022 Heisman winner, Williams has just 267 yards passing this season. He has one of the worst completion rates in the NFL at 56.1 percent.
He threw no touchdown passes and had a league-high nine sacks.
