Alaïa black bodysuit, vertiginous Christian Louboutin pumps, all on a chair that she straddles, Chiara Mastroianni is simply sublime on the cover of Madame Figaro (February 18, 2022 issue). The 49-year-old actress is the cover girl for the promotion of the play The Sky of Nantess, by Christophe Honoré. Both know each other very well since they have been working together for years. Chiara Mastroianni has acted in several of her films, including Room 212, for which the daughter of Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni received the Swann d’or for best actress at the Cabourg Festival in 2020. She also won the interpretation prize in the Un certain regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. The choice of Chiara Mastroianni was obvious to Christophe Honoré for his piece which tells the story of his family over three generations. She plays Aunt Claudie, suicidal and depressed.
For Chiara Mastroianni, this new project was much more like a challenge. The actress had never been on stage before and it was not her mother who would have pushed her to do so. Catherine Deneuve has never taken the step of acting and advised her daughter against doing so when she told her about it. “But no !“, she even launched when she told him of her intentions. But when Catherine Deneuve went to see her daughter on stage, her opinion changed. “I think she sees me a little differently now. I grew up with the absolute fear that she had of the theaterconfides Chiara Mastroianni to Madame Figaro. But I also remembered the example of my father, who started out on stage with Visconti’s troupe. He told me a lot about it.“
With The Sky of Nantes who is currently on tour – and who will pass through Paris from March 8 to April 3 at the Théâtre de l’Europe-Odéon – Chiara Mastroianni adds a new string to her already very well supplied bow. In addition to cinema and theater, the actress also excels in music and she proved it by collaborating on two albums by her ex-husband Benjamin Biolay. She sang on Home released in 2004 and on Revolver released in 2017. Experiences that helped him embark on the great adventure of theater. “I think that being on stage to sing with Benjamin also helped me to cross the threshold of the theater“, admits Chiara Mastroianni at the very end of her interview with Madame Figaro.
As a reminder, Chiara Mastroianni were married for seven years, from 2002 to 2009. From their love was born Anna, in April 2003. The latter follows in the footsteps of her parents… Chiara Mastroianni is also the mother of Milo, born on December 31, 1996, she had with the sculptor Pierre Torreton.
