Chevron Tournament | Americans Allisen Corpuz and Angel Yin in the lead

(Los Angeles) Americans Allisen Corpuz and Angel Yin, both seeking their first title on the LPGA Tour, took the lead in the Chevron Championship on Saturday in the third round of this first major women’s golf tournament of the year.

Yin birdied three times over the final four holes to tie for the lead with Corpuz. It made four birdies on the first five holes during a round without bogey.

The tournament takes place on the Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Carlton Woods, in the suburbs of Houston (Texas), after being held for 51 years in Rancho Mirage, California.

“I feel really good this week,” Yin said. “I feel really good and calm since the beginning of the year. I’m just happy to see myself playing well.”

“I’ve been playing very solid the last three days,” said Corpuz. “I gave myself good birdie chances and managed to convert a few of them.”

With a total score of -10, the two golfers suddenly beat a trio of pursuers: South Korean Amy Yang, American Megan Khang and Swiss Albane Valenzuela.

Just behind, ambushed at -8, are American Nelly Korda, chasing a second major title after winning the 2021 LPGA Women’s Championship, and South Koreans Kim A-lim, Choi Hye-jin and Kim Hyo-joo.

Also note the hole in one of the South Korean Chun In-gee at 17e hole (par 3). She is 18e in the standings, after returning a card of 69, or 3 strokes under par.
