(The Woodlands) World number one Lydia Ko and American Lexi Thompson failed to qualify for the final two rounds of the Chevron Golf Championship on Saturday, the first major tournament of the pro golf season feminine.
A total of 31 golfers had to return to the field on Saturday to complete the second round, interrupted because of darkness on Friday, in the suburbs of Houston.
Among them was the Canadian Brooke Henderson, whose score of 67 at the end of this second round allowed her to rise to fourth place in the overall ranking.
Her overall record of 138, six under par, leaves her two strokes behind the leader, South Korean A Lim Kim, and tied with Thailand’s Patty Tavatanakit and American Nelly Korda.
Americans Lilia Vu and Megan Khang share second place, one stroke behind the South Korean.
The qualifying threshold for the last two rounds was 145, one stroke over par, and 68 players were able to cross it. The list includes Canadian Maddie Szeryk (71-73-144), whose cumulative score is par at the halfway point of the tournament.
Quebec’s Maude-Aimée Leblanc failed to imitate her after playing rounds of 75 and 72, three strokes over par.
For her part, Ko committed four bogeys and a double bogey in her second round for a final card of 76, after a first round of 71. As for Thompson, she was eliminated following rounds of 74 and 72.
Defending champion Jennifer Kupcho also missed the qualifying threshold after negotiating the first two rounds in 150 strokes (72-78).
