Islamophobic tags were discovered on the facade of the mosque in Cherbourg (Manche), Monday evening around 11 p.m., France Bleu Cotentin reported Tuesday April 16. Black and red spray paint are written “Islam outside France” And “cancer islam”. The image of the vandalized wall was published on the Facebook page of the Cherbourg mosque. The prefect is expected there on Tuesday.
Security around the place of worship had however been reinforced after a hunting rifle was fired last week at the gate, leaving a bullet hole. Mosque officials then indicated that they had installed ten surveillance cameras inside and outside the establishment.
This is the third time that the Cherbourg mosque has been the victim of Islamophobia, recalls France Bleu Cotentin. At the end of 2023, Islamophobic tags and death threats were written on the facade. The perpetrator had not been found.
