Leïla Chaouachi, pharmacist at the Paris addictovigilance center, is the rapporteur for the “chemical submission” survey to the national drug safety agency. “Chemical submission is the act of drugging a person without their knowledge or under threat to commit a crime or misdemeanor”explains this specialist.It identified 727 suspicious reports in 2021, an increasing figure. “We are not dealing with reports of probable chemical submission. We are dealing with all suspicious reports, that is to say attacks facilitated by drugs”deciphers Leïla Chaouachi, who notably calls into question the lifting of confinement and the reopening of bars.
“A liberation of speech”
The pharmacist greets “a liberation of speech”which began in fall 2021. “We saw an increase in awareness and suspicious signals, which were reported. The proportion of chemical submissions in these assault cases remained unchanged between 10 and 11% in our data”, details Leïla Chaouachi. She specifies that “the victims are of all ages”. “In 2021, it starts at one year and ends at 64. It’s really wide”assures the specialist.
