Chelsea cleared to sell Champions League and cup tickets

The British government on Wednesday granted a new license to the Chelsea club, which will allow it to sell tickets for its last Champions League and FA Cup matches this season.

The Bluesreigning European champions, are subject to a series of restrictions due to sanctions imposed by the British government on their owner, Roman Abramovich, for his alleged links with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As such, the London club was banned from selling tickets from March 10, even if the measure did not concern annual subscriptions or tickets already sold.

The ban still applies to the Premier League, the Premier League, where Chelsea will not be able to sell tickets to their supporters for matches scheduled at their Stamford Bridge stadium. Its supporters will, however, be able to buy tickets for their team’s away matches. Likewise, Chelsea will be able to sell tickets for supporters of Premier League teams who come to its lawn.

Chelsea FC will host Real Madrid on April 6 in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. He will also face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final on the weekend of April 16 and 17 at Wembley.

Thanks to the new license, the club can put tickets on sale for these two matches and for any other fixtures that may follow in these two competitions, as well as for matches in its women’s section in the Women’s Super League. The proceeds of these sales must be donated to the organizers of these various competitions.

“Since Roman Abramovich was added to the UK sanctions list for his links to Vladimir Putin, we have been working hard to ensure that the club can continue to play football while ensuring that the sanctions regime continues to be applied”

Nigel Huddleston, Minister for Sport

To this end, Fordstam Limited, the club’s parent company, has been authorized to inject up to 30 million pounds (approximately 36 million euros) into Chelsea’s finances to solve its cash flow problems until the end of the season. Last season, the club’s monthly wage bill was £28million. Abramovich, who bought the club in 2003, put it up for sale before being sanctioned. The process is still ongoing.
