Chaudière-Appalaches | Man missing and woman in hospital after fire

(Saint-Paul-de-Montminy) One person is missing and another was transported to hospital Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in a single-family home in Saint-Paul-de-Montminy, in the region of Chaudière-Appalaches.


According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the house located on Route 216 is inhabited by a couple.

Around 6 a.m., flames rose from the structure and the man and woman managed to escape. However, the man decided to go back inside for an as yet unknown reason; he didn’t come out.

Meanwhile, the woman was taken to hospital. The SQ was unaware of the seriousness of his condition.

Around 8 a.m., the fire was still in progress and firefighters were still working to put it out. It was unclear when the search for the missing man would resume.

The cause of the fire remained to be determined. The investigation was entrusted to the major crimes squad of the Sûreté du Québec.

The municipality of Saint-Paul-de-Montminy is located about fifty kilometers southeast of Montmagny.
