(Saint-Apollinaire) A 29-year-old man lost his life in a collision involving a car and a van on Saturday evening in Saint-Apollinaire, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The accident occurred around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Route 273 and Rang Bois-Franc.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) indicated that the driver of the car was traveling eastbound on Rang Bois-Franc and did not make his mandatory stop for a reason still unknown.
He was reportedly hit by the van, which was traveling southbound, as it crossed Route 273, which has a speed limit of 90 km/h. The driver of the van did not have to stop.
As a result of the impact, the two vehicles ended up in the ditch.
The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man, was seriously injured. The jaws of life were needed to get him out of the car. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the van was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
An SQ patrol officer trained in investigation and collision went to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances of the accident.
Route 273 was temporarily closed, but reopened to traffic around 10 p.m.
