An identical 25% of respondents from both countries felt that AI tools are bad for society, while only 36% of Canadians said these new tools are good for society.

The majority of respondents, 39% of Canadians and 43% of Americans, chose not to answer or did not know the answer to the question.

Many Canadians fear artificial intelligence, with more than seven in ten fearing fraud or hacking, and believing that these tools threaten human jobs.

Three out of four Canadians are concerned about the lack of empathy and emotion of these new technologies.

However, the majority of survey participants (65%) have never used an AI tool.

This survey comes after the launch of the artificial intelligence software ChatGPT text generator, last November. Google also launched its chatbot, called Bard, a few weeks ago.

The survey was conducted with a representative sample of 1,539 Canadians and 1,000 Americans between January 20 and January 29, 2023.
