Charmaine Crooks elected President of Soccer Canada

(Saint-Jean) Charmaine Crooks was elected President of Soccer Canada.

The former Olympian was chosen over former federation vice-president Rob Newman at an annual general meeting.

Crooks had moved from vice president to acting president late in February, following the resignation of Nick Bontis. The latter had recognized that a change was necessary in order to conclude a working agreement with the national women’s and men’s teams.

Soccer Canada’s Annual General Meeting continues until Sunday in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Crooks has competed in the Olympics five times, winning silver in the 4×400 meters relay at the Los Angeles Games in 1984. She has been on the Soccer Canada board since 2012-13 and was vice-president since January 2021.

Soccer Canada did not immediately release the results of the vote.
