In an interview with the magazine Psychologies, in the edition to be published next January, Charlotte Gainsbourg spoke of her role as a mother and the departure of two of her children, Ben (24 years old), Alice (19 years old), from the family home. A shock for the actress who lived it very badly. “There were three of us, in this big apartment, and I had a very strong depression”, revealed the 50-year-old star. A very difficult moment during which she was able to count on the support of her mother Jane Birkin. “My mother held my hand, she was completely there for me. (…) When you have depression, the feeling of fear is constant”.
For a long time, these two had a complicated relationship. Especially since Yvan Attal’s wife saw that the connection was much more fluid between his mother and her sisters, Kate Barry (deceased in 2013, editor’s note) and Lou Doillon. “Me, I saw especially that with my sisters, Lou and Kate, they were on the contrary very accomplices, she recalled before admitting: “I built myself with jealousy, I needed to verify that we were being treated fairly. So it’s true that there were a lot of misunderstandings between us… “
But today, Jane Birkin and Charlotte Gainsbourg are closer even if it took a long time. Moreover, the actress will be released on January 12 at the cinema, a very personal project entitled: Jane by Charlotte. For four years, the director filmed her mother. Among the highlights of this documentary, we can obviously cite their visit to the former home of Serge Gainsbourg, rue de Verneuil where the interpreter ofOh sorry, you were sleeping had never returned. This very intimate feature film, which explores their mother-daughter bond, was presented this summer, out of competition, in Cannes.
