Charlotte Gainsbourg confesses to what caused her “distress” and “depression”

Watching your children leave is never easy. Even when they have to leave the family home to continue their studies. All parents would like to have them by their side throughout their life. Unfortunately, this is not always possible and Charlotte Gainsbourg knows it. The 50-year-old director still had a hard time coping with the departure of Ben and Alice, her two eldest sons. It is with deep emotion that she broached the subject in the columns of “Psychologies” to be published in January 2022.

Jane Birkin’s daughter came back in particular to her role as a mother as our colleagues from Purepeople underline before mentioning the sudden departure of her children causing her to lose all her means. “There were three of us, in this big apartment, and I had a very strong depression,” she begins before thanking her mother who was able to respond during this more than complicated period: “My mother held my hand, she was completely there for me. (…) When you have a depression, the feeling of fear is constant. “

It is also for this reason that when Jane Birkin suffered a stroke about three months ago, Charlotte Gainsbourg found herself in a difficult situation to overcome. Fortunately, his mother got away with nothing after him, according to him. But there is no doubt that if the worst had happened, the director would have had a hard time getting over it. Because she would have lost the one who gave her life, of course, but also a shoulder on which she can rest and count. Yvan Attal’s companion, on top of that, seems to be very anxious by nature. Proof of this is with the speech she made at the Parisian last July where she confessed that she was very afraid to return to France because of the Covid-19:

“I have been in distress. Finally, I was not doing very well on my return, and there, it was you who helped and supported me ”, she confessed, addressing her mother who was at her side during the interview.
