Charlotte Cardin’s star shines bright among Juno nominees

If all goes well, the first in-person Juno Awards since 2019 will take place on May 15, 2022 in Toronto outdoors at Ontario Place on the Budweiser Stage. It will be the 51and canadian music day and the 27and time that the City of Toronto is hosting.

The nominations for the 2022 vintage were announced on Tuesday morning. Among Quebec artists who stand out, Charlotte Cardin’s star shines brightly. This one collects six nominations in the big categories for phoenix including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Pop Album and Single for Song Meaningless. She will perform on the Budweiser Stage at Ontario Place, outdoors for the first time. The rock group Arkells, Avril Lavigne and Mustafa are also among the artists who will perform, and other names are yet to be added.

Kaytranada has been nominated twice: for the Jack Richardson Award for Director of the Year and in the category celebrating Dance Recording. Cœur de pirate is also nominated twice: a first for the instrumental album Perseids and in the Francophone Album category for Impossible to love, alongside Fouki (Deluxe Snacks), Louis-Jean Cormier (The sky is on the floor), Roxanne Bruneau (Acrophobia) and Vincent Vallières (All beauty is not lost).

Other Quebec artists whose excellence is highlighted in the nominations: Half Moon Run (Alternative Adult Album), Jorane (Instrumental Album), Yannick Nézet-Séguin (Classical Solo Album of the Year), Angèle Dubeau et la Piétà ( Small Ensemble Album of the Year), Xavier Dolan for directing the music video forEasy on Me, by Adele. Ariane Roy also finds herself in this last category for Your hand, whose music video was directed by Adrian Villagomez.

The event was hosted by Chinese-born Toronto actor Simu Liu, who stars in the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel’s superhero film franchise. The 32-year-old accountant-turned-comedian is known for his role as Jung in the popular sitcom Kim’s Convenience from CBC.
