This year, Charlotte Cardin is leading the way at the Junos Awards, with six nominations.
The Montreal pop singer-songwriter stood out during the announcement of the Junos nominations on Tuesday, her 99 Nights landing nominations for Album of the Year as well as Best Pop Album.
Charlotte Cardin was also recognized in the Artist of the Year and People’s Choice categories, while her Canadian success Confetti was among the nominees for song of the year.
Her sixth nomination, for songwriter of the year, she shares with her co-writers Jason Brando and Lubalin, for the same song.
Charlotte Cardin won four trophies at the 2022 edition of the Junos.
Other major contenders this year include Toronto R&B singer Daniel Caesar and Ottawa native Nicholas Durocher, who performs under the name Talk. They are tied with five nominations, including several in key categories.
Among the artists cited three times are Montreal folk singer-songwriter Allison Russell, who just won her first Grammy on Sunday, and Tate McRae, whose pop hit Greedy positioned her among the new generation of Canadian stars.
The Junos will be broadcast live on CBC from Halifax on March 24. Nelly Furtado is expected to take on a dual role as host and performer.
Joining him at the Scotiabank Center will be a string of newly announced artists, including country star Josh Rosh, Punjabi singer Karan Aujla and Talk.
The Junos previously announced that hip-hop pioneer Maestro Fresh Wes would be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame this year, making him the first rapper to receive the lifetime achievement honor.
Pop duo Tegan and Sara, sisters from Calgary, will receive the Humanitarian Award from Elliot Page for their work in advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.
