The French now have 18 wins at the European short course championships, after Saturday’s finals.

On the occasion of this fifth day of the European Short Course Swimming Championships, France added four new medals to its tally on Saturday December 9. The French selection now has 18 since the start of the competition, which takes place in Otopeni (Romania), including six in gold. Young Mary-Ambre Moluh obtained the first medal of the evening, in bronze, in the 100 meter backstroke. En 57”10, she finished behind the Dutch Kira Toussaint (55”88) and the British Medi Harris (56”81). This is his very first senior achievement, at only 18 years old.

French records for Maxime Grousset and Charlotte Bonnet

After Mary-Ambre Moluh, it was Charlotte Bonnet, who obtained a silver medal on the wire during the 200 meter medley, she who had already won the title in the 100 meter medley earlier in the week. Fourth after the butterfly and the backstroke, the Habs returned to the leading trio during the breaststroke, before overtaking two of their opponents after a final effort in crawl. She finished in 2’06”58, a French record, behind Abbie Wood (2’05”58).

Expected during the final of the 50 meter butterfly, Maxime Grousset obtained a bronze medal, behind the Swiss Noé Ponti, who came close to the world record in 21”79, and the Hungarian Szebasztian Szabo (21”96). Grousset nevertheless beat the French record for the distance, in 22”06. It erases for three hundredths the previous brand, previously owned by Florent Manaudou. Maxime Grousset won his second medal since the start of the European Championships, after silver in the 100 meter butterfly.

The evening ended on a good note, with the bronze medal won by the mixed 4x50m relay. The French team was made up of Florent Manaudou, Maxime Grousset, Charlotte Bonnet and Beryl Gastaldello.
