When asked if she felt ready to carry a series on her shoulders, Charlotte Aubin smiles. “That’s what’s going on, isn’t it?” Looks like I don’t realize it yet… I’m like: well no, they’re very good, everyone else! ”

But to answer the question: not only did she feel ready, but she also wanted to. “I think I was there. I wanted to take care of the team, the lyrics, the people, this character, this story. To wear it with a lot of light. ”

In Turn, which has been broadcast on Noovo since mid-September, Charlotte Aubin plays Frédérique Lessard, an Olympic champion in short track speed skating who, at 28, has just retired and broken up with her companion of the past 10 years. Returning to real life will be a process full of obstacles, but Charlotte Aubin understood the distress of her character as well as the reality of Olympic athletes.

Me, at 30, I never want to do anything else in my life! I want to play, make art, write, I have the impression that I have found my X. And them, at 30, everything stops. But how do you prepare for the aftermath when you’re 100% into something? I never understood this total dedication they have.

Once out of her sporting bubble, Frédérique, “overwhelmed by life” and without tools to “enter the world”, acts quite like a teenager, notes the actress.

“While everyone was having their experiences, she was just skating and setting out to be the best. So this exploratory period of adolescence, she saw it there, in her late twenties. And it’s a lot less cute, let’s say. ”

His goal: to give Frede depth so that we get attached to him anyway and that we have empathy despite his missteps, his clumsiness, his lack of respect. “Because sometimes, it’s really not nice…”, explains the actress, who was inspired by imperfect female characters like Frances Ha.

“I found that if there was no candor, or if she realized what she was doing, this is where she just got self-centered and mean. But there is always a desire to make up for mistakes, which makes you want to follow her in there. ”

Devote yourself body and soul

TV (Blue Moon, The Breakaway), movie theater (Those who make revolutions halfway have only dug a grave), theater (Dig up the bones), poetry (a collection, Package of trouble, published in 2018), Charlotte Aubin likes to walk between mediums.

“For me, they are communicating vessels”, says the actress, who will be in December of the distribution of the new film by Ken Scott, Goodbye happiness, and who will play in January at La Licorne in the theatrical adaptation of Two golden women by Catherine Léger. “I feel like it’s all connected and it just uplifts the performer I want to be. ”

Woman of words and words – “Yeah, I talk a lot, eh?” “- Charlotte Aubin prefers to think and analyze upstream, a question of being” instinctively, free, available and fresh “once on the set. In short, she likes to prepare more than less, and with Turn, she was served. Intensive skating training, long work on the text with director Catherine Therrien, Charlotte Aubin devoted more than six months to this series whose story is freely inspired by the life of skater Marianne St-Gelais.

I was just thinking training, nutrition, text, I was talking with athletes. I was still bathing in this world.

It is certainly the kind of immersive project that every young actress dreams of. She agrees, it was a big chunk. “Action, drama, sport, a physical transformation … When you are an actor, you want to transform yourself even within this limit”, says Charlotte Aubin, who herself interpreted most of the scenes of skating, including those of the departures. “I probably thought more of the character than I thought of myself during the shoot. ”

Here, what to see a similarity with what the athletes live, precisely, who devote themselves body and soul to their sport.

“It’s true that there is something total. A shoot, you just think about it, it becomes like a bubble. The people you work with become your family. They are also very demanding jobs, insecure at times, where there is a great pressure on the body, the performance. I’m not an athlete, but sometimes there were emotional areas where I was like, ah, I know that. ”

” Headlining ” ?

Charlotte Aubin is grateful to Noovo for having trusted an actress who “is not a headliner”, and proud of the result.

The hard work we’ve all done can be seen on screen.

The actress now hopes that this role can propel her towards other major projects.

Did she continue to skate? ” No. But I’m waiting for my next sport, my next challenge, you understand? Let’s say… like pole vault? “Name it, I’m ready!” ” She laughs.

“If I was still playing a sportswoman, it would have to be a different genre. I always dreamed of playing a boxer, because of Million Dollar Baby… I was fascinated by this film. But I want all kinds of challenges, playing very dignified and sweet young firsts as well as little bums. I am interested in exploring all facets and to date, I have been very lucky. They call me for different things. ”

For now, she doesn’t know what her year 2022 will be made of, but she trusts life. “It’s a job like that. We’re going to finish 2021, and then we’ll see. I am not afraid and I think great things will happen. I wish. We don’t have too many concerns for her.
