A person whose body has not yet been identified died in a house fire in a small town in the Charlevoix region. The major crimes division of the Sûreté du Québec is investigating the tragedy.
The region’s emergency services were called to the scene of the fire, in the municipality of Saint-Aimé-des-lacs around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.
The fire had taken hold in this house in the rue de la Décharge, a dirt road in the forest ending in a cul-de-sac, and lined with a few modest-sized houses.
On the spot, they found the body of an inanimate person, explains the agent Nicolas Scholtus, public relations officer for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
Since the death took place in the context of a fire, the SQ’s major crimes investigation division is responsible for the file, he adds. “Steps must also be taken to establish the identity [de la personne décédée] in a positive way]. »
Fire scene technicians will travel to the scene tomorrow to better understand the circumstances of the tragedy.
