Charles Sultan resigns from his post as deputy mayor of Montpellier, “nothing was progressing”

The health assistant at the city of Montpellier resigns from his post. The 76-year-old professor of pediatric endocrinology Charles Sultan joined Mayor Michaël Delafosse’s team in 2020. A personality recognized in the medical world, in particular for his work on the links between endocrine disruptors and genital malformations in children.

He hoped to put his notoriety and skills for several projects. Today he denounces the inertia of the municipal team in place while acknowledging that he was pushed out.

Charles Sultan explains that he had committed to the municipal elections with a roadmap, “no project has moved forward” he said. He wanted to create a house of prevention for health, “nothing is done yet”. He was involved in the Montpellier appeal against the use of pesticides, “6 ministers, 15 deputies and 75 personalities had agreed to participate, the project is dead, I completely discredited myself“. As for Med Vallée, this large center around health which is about to see the light of day, “I wasn’t even associated with it”.

I was pressured to quit

The only project he had presented and which will be signed in September but without him is the local health contract. Charles Sultan says he is disappointed, bitterit’s a failure, but I was not made for this world”. The professor speaks of “an amicable divorce” while adding that we have “forced to resign”. The mayor would have received letters denouncing the racist behavior and remarks of Charles Sultan during a wedding. Words whose content we do not know, but which he recognizes, “it was moved” he said.

Charles Sultan regrets that yesterday he had his mailbox deleted from the town hall without even warning him, “it contained two years of exchange and work”. And to conclude “Politics is hard”.

The appointment of Charles Sultan’s successor to the post of health assistant will be appointed next week by the municipal council on July 28.
