(Fort Worth) Davis Riley played par (70) in the final round, in a group including world number one player Scottie Scheffler, and still won the Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday.
Riley won by five strokes over Scheffler and Keegan Bradley, earning his first individual victory on the PGA Tour.
Riley finished the competition with a cumulative score of minus-14 (266). Bradley carded a 67 on Sunday, while Scheffler scored 71. The no 1 in the world did not make a birdie before the 13the hole.
Entering the final round four shots ahead, Riley bogeyed the second hole and lost a one-shot lead. He first hit his ball into the long grass and then had to hit from the bunker.
It was, however, the closest Scheffler, or anyone, got to the head during the day.
The 27-year-old Riley won another PGA title, teaming with Nick Hardy last year at the Zurich Classic.
Thanks to his triumph at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Riley also obtained 1.638 million US dollars.
Bradley, who won two tournaments last year, was 10 shots under par after making a four-foot birdie at the 17th.e hole.
Collin Morikawa, the only one in the group to complete all four rounds under par, finished fourth at under-8. He shot a 68 in the final round.
It was a third top 3 consecutive for Scheffler at this tournament, despite his card of 72 in the first round.
It was the first time that Scheffler did not return a card under par in the first round this season.
