Charles Pieri indicted and imprisoned

Charles Pieri, former executive of Corsica Libera and ex-presumed leader of the FLNC, was placed in detention this Friday evening. Six other militants of the independence party, including three members of the executive, were indicted and released under judicial supervision.

Charles Pieri was taken into custody this Friday evening at the Fleury-Mérogis remand center. After 96 hours in police custody, the leader of the independence party Corsica Libera was indicted for “criminal association and possession of weapons in connection with a terrorist enterprise”.

According to our information, two handguns and rifles were found at his home during a search.

Because of his age (72 years) and his state of health considered weak, his lawyers Me Eric Barbolosi and Me Marc-Antoine Luca, had asked that he be left free. The liberty and detention judge finally ordered detention.

Six other party activists, including three members of the new executive, were indicted for “terrorist association of criminals” and left free under strict judicial supervision. They are Ghjuvan’Battista Pieri, Ghjiseppu Maria Verdi, Matteo Giona, Lionel Giona, Jacques Mosconi and Nicolas Mattei.

An eighth man, Alexandre Michel, was also indicted in this case and left free under judicial supervision. He is not a Corsica Libera activist. According to our information, he is suspected of having played the role of intermediary in the sale of arms.

Interviewed for 96 hours, the suspects were, according to our information, questioned at length about the functioning of the independence party Corsica Libera and its links with the FLNC.

These eight people were arrested on Monday in Corsica as part of an open judicial investigation by the chiefs “Terrorist criminal association, aggravated destruction (or attempted) in relation to a terrorist enterprise, violations of the legislation on weapons and explosives in relation to a terrorist enterprise”.

As a reminder, in this same file, Richard Bouza-Fernandez was indicted for association with terrorist criminals by an anti-terrorist investigating judge in Paris, Wednesday, December 7, according to information revealed by our colleagues from Corse-Matin.

Aged 58, this cook by profession was placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday December 7 in Paris, at the prison of Health. A decision “unjustified” according to his lawyers.
