After generally dominating free practice, local hero Charles Leclerc set the fastest qualifying time on Saturday May 28 and will start from pole position in the Monaco Grand Prix. The Monegasque, who had to give up last week in Barcelona, offers himself the 14th pole of his career and will try to win the Grand Prix on Sunday, which he has never finished in five appearances.
Leclerc dominated these three qualifying laps head and shoulders, with a hot time in Q3 when he had a clear field. He is ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz and Sergio Pérez. His main rival, championship leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull), will start from fourth position.
The red flag was raised thirty seconds from the end of Q3. Mexican driver Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) put his car across the track after having hit the rail at the tunnel entrance. Behind, Carlos Sainz could not avoid the Red Bull and also damaged his Ferrari. Everyone emerged unscathed from the crash, but qualifying had to end prematurely.

Earlier in the race, officials also waved the red flag with 2:25 remaining in the first qualifying session. The Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) suffered a mechanical breakage.
On the French side, after three convincing qualifying laps, Esteban Ocon (Alpine) will start the race in tenth position. Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri), 17th at the end of Q1, failed to get past the first round of qualifying in Monaco for the first time in his career.
