The day so dreaded by the United Kingdom has arrived. This Thursday, September 8, the life of Prince Charles has shifted into another dimension. The disappearance of his mother, Elizabeth II, who died of old age at 96, propelled him to the rank of king. As soon as the announcement was made to the whole world, Prince Charles became Charles III and promised, like his devoted and late mother, to serve the British people until the end. If he is therefore king, his coronation has not yet taken place. But Bloomberg, news site, was able to say that the event would take place on June 3, 2023.
But those who already saw themselves taking a vacation from work to take advantage of this major event as it should be may be disappointed. For the moment, no date has been validated by the Crown. And it is Buckingham Palace that is responsible for making it known. A spokesperson for the monarchy told the newspaper Evening Standard that all the information currently circulating about the coronation of Charles III was only “pure speculation“and had to be taken”with huge tweezers.”
While it is not certain that Charles III will be crowned on June 3 for now, the date of the event will indeed be a public holiday for the British. As will now be September 19 of each year, the date of the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Due to the traditions and the importance of the moment, the coronation of Elizabeth II had required more than a year of preparation. If we follow this logic, Charles III should therefore not be crowned before September 2023. As wife and queen consort, Camilla Parker-Bowles should also be crowned.
Elizabeth II had to wait much longer before being officially proclaimed queen. Her father, George VI, died on February 6, 1952. It was not until June 3, 1953, more than a year later, that Queen Elizabeth II was entitled to her coronation by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Westminster Abbey.
