Composer, singer, painter, writer, poet, or even photographer, CharlÉlie Couture is all of these things at the same time. But this Saturday, January 29, it is the singer, in full rehearsal, who welcomed the journalists of France 3 Limousin, a few hours before his concert at the Cloister theater in Bellac. CharlÉlie is on tour in France, but also in Belgium, with Essential concertsa show inspired by his latest album released in 2020: Hidden treasures and rare pearls. On stage, with his accomplice Karim Attoumane, the artist revisits some of his old titles, forgotten or unknown.
Questioning myself, correcting the manuscript, rewriting a few sentences, repeating them differently, I borrowed a (adjustable) wrench to repair my pipes and I accumulated proofs, numbers and new clues for thirteen treasures. Exhuming jewels stolen from the passage of time, re-cutting rare pearls, stress-free, relaxed, I had nothing else to do, nothing to gain, nothing to lose either.
“I took pleasure in bringing old titles back to life by giving them a new lease of life, we call that covers“, explains CharlÉlie Couture who unearthed Serge K from his album rock poems from 1981 which included the title that made him famous, Like a plane without wings. But also Turn around from the original film soundtrack Tchao Pantin by Claude Berri with Coluche; or Good night Emerald, One hand in mine.
Among the 14 titles, also appears The cleverone of the twenty-two poems of the Notebooks of Douai by young Arthur Rimbaud set to music and images with twenty-two personalities as part of a collaborative project designed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of this collection written by Rimbaud at the age of 16 during his runaways in the northern city.
