The Los Angeles Chargers have announced that they plan to build a new headquarters and training facility in El Segundo.
The team said Monday it has reached an agreement with Continental Development Corporation and Mar Ventures to build a complex on a 14-acre site. The project has yet to be submitted to the El Segundo Town Planning Commission and is expected to be completed by spring 2024.
The Chargers would become the third Los Angeles sports team to build their training complex in El Segundo, after the Lakers in the NBA and the Kings in the NHL.
“When we were looking for a location to establish our headquarters for our business and football operations, we left nothing to chance,” Chargers owner Dean Spanos said in a statement. This process took over four years because we weren’t ready to settle down. We didn’t want something great, we wanted something grand and we finally found it. ”
The training facilities will include three natural grass pitches. There will be room to accommodate the more than 5,000 spectators seated in the stands, meaning the Chargers will hold their training camp at the complex, once it is completed.
The Chargers have been based in Costa Mesa since 2017. The Rams have yet to announce their plans to build a permanent facility. They have been training at a temporary facility on the Lutheran University of California campus since 2016.
