Chantal Perrichon, the honorary president of the League against road violence, died on Tuesday June 20 at the age of 77, franceinfo learned from the association, confirming information from Release. “It’s a great loss, she was president of the League for more than 20 years, an activist for 30 years, she was very committed, very sensitive to the preservation of life”, and this, “with many demands”reacted to AFP Pierre Lagache, vice-president of the League against road violence.

A commitment to reduce the number of road deaths

Psychologist and speech therapist by training, Chantal Perrichon took over the presidency of the association in 2002. She left her post to Jean-Yves Lamant in December 2022 while continuing to invest in it. Having become honorary president, she retired several months ago for health reasons. Founded in 1983, the League against road violence works to ensure that “the deadliest crime is treated with the seriousness it deserves”. Organized into departmental associations, it regularly calls on all those involved in road safety.

Chantal Perrichon has received death threats for supporting the 80 km/h limit on all two-way roads without a central divider. She was also sued for public insult, including for saying in 2019: “We will pay the blood price for the pseudo-responsibility of elected officials who prefer their mandate to the security of citizens.” She had been released in May 2021.
