With the heat peaking on Monday, October 2, customers of a Bordeaux fruit and vegetable store are mainly turning to summer fruits and vegetables. So, producers are worried about an overstock of fall products.
At midday, Monday October 2, it was already hot in Bordeaux (Gironde). A primeur puts Butternut squash and cauliflowers on the shelves. He certainly won’t sell these seasonal vegetables. “As long as it’s hot, we won’t sell fall products“, he assures. Here, customers actually stick to summer consumption. “It is again the colors of summer. Maybe now these will be the new colors of fall“, says a woman.
Falling temperatures
For producers, this can pose a problem. In Nantes (Loire Atlantique)a market gardener fears ending up with unsold stocks. “With this weather, selling fall products is very complicated”says Romain Badoneauproducer and seller of fruits and vegetables, who specifies that “no one wants to eat cauliflower“. Summer vegetables remain cheap and tasty. Customers enjoy it on their plates. Temperatures are expected to drop from Tuesday.
