This investigation, the nature of which we do not know, nevertheless had the effect of postponing the ceremony for the change of command of the 3e Wing scheduled for Tuesday at the Armed Forces Base in Bagotville, Quebec.

Colonel Colin Marks was to take charge of this squadron led by Colonel Normand Gagné since July 2019.

“On June 22, 2022, at the 4e Cold Lake Wing, a Call Sign Allocation Committee [des surnoms]during which call signs to members associated with the hunter community [CF-18] are chosen, took place in a small group social setting, said a National Defense statement released around 1 p.m. Monday. An investigation has been launched into the statements made during this call sign allocation committee. »

Asked to give more details on the nature of this terse press release, the Department of National Defense’s media relations department declined to elaborate. “As the incident itself is under investigation by the Military Police, it would be inappropriate to release any further details at this time,” we were told.

The decision to delay the change of command was made by the Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Lieutenant-General Eric Kenny. Note that the latter has just taken office, on August 12, 2022.
