Former forward Joe Sakic will no longer wear the hat of general manager of the Colorado Avalanche, as he will instead find himself president of hockey operations, while his assistant Chris MacFarland will be promoted to the role of general manager.

That’s according to Sportsnet hockey expert Elliotte Friedman on Monday. According to him, the organization did not want to lose MacFarland to opposing teams and did not allow him to be interviewed by them.
The 52-year-old New Yorker was hired by the ‘Avs’ to act as an assistant to the GM in May 2015. So he helped the club rise to Stanley Cup champion status by helping oversee development important players like Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog.
For his part, Sakic has just won the Jim-Gregory trophy, awarded to the DG par excellence in the National Hockey League. Colorado clinched its first championship since 2000-01 after finishing second overall in the regular season.
