Champions League second leg | CF Montreal’s opponent will be different but the task will be the same

(Montreal) The Mexican club that will present themselves on the artificial lawn of the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday evening will be different from the one that faced CF Montreal in the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions League on February 23. But the task to be accomplished will be identical in all respects.

This is what head coach Wilfried Nancy recalled just over 24 hours from the second leg of the quarter-finals against Cruz Azul.

In the previous round, Santos Laguna won the first leg 1-0 at home. It was by this same score that CF Montreal lost last Wednesday at the Azteca stadium.

To reach the semi-finals, CF Montreal must win by two goals in front of their supporters. They can also earn a 1-0 victory after regulation time, but a penalty shootout will become necessary to determine the winning club.

Midfielder Djordje Mihailovic shared his head coach’s view of the task at hand. Also, he insisted that the Montreal players must display the same attitude that led them to a 3-0 victory over Santos Laguna in the second leg.

This meeting will be the Montreal team’s fourth since March 5. This situation forces Nancy to rotate her pool of players in order to rely on as fresh forces as possible from one outing to the next while trying to rack up the wins.
