In the Chartreuse massif, a rather special religious building opens its doors on 12/13. In the monastery of Chalaisthe nuns pray, but they also bake cookies.

It is a place where calm reigns. The monastery of Chalais (Isere) is located in the heart of the Chartreuse massif. Thirteen nuns recite prayers and sing for Christ. However, they also perform a very different and rather unexpected task. This activity is the manufacture of biscuits. All the ingredients are natural and the work of the nuns is carried out with meticulousness to make these cakes with six different flavors.

If the nuns like to indulge in the preparation of these biscuits, they do not do it for free since these cakes are then sold. “We work to earn a living, these biscuits from Chalais (Isère) are our livelihood, in addition it is a very community work where in this biscuit day, we are all there, we take turns every hour. “smiles Sister Agnes. The money brought in by the sale of the biscuits makes it possible to finance works to preserve the place and to carry out works if necessary.
