The parents of Chahinez Daoud, killed by her husband on May 4 in Mérignac (Gironde), have obtained custody of their grandchildren, their lawyer announced on Wednesday December 29 to franceinfo. They left Algeria to raise them in France and so “make their daughter’s dearest wish come true”, specifies Me Julien Plouton.

The decision was rendered in mid-December. Justice orders the placement of three children of Chahinez in the home of the grandparents. “They were able to get them back just before the end of the year holidays”, explains master Julien Plouton. At the time of the incident, the children were aged 3, 7 and 11. The youngest being a common child of the couple.

Concerned about the fate of their grandchildren, Chahinez Daoud’s parents had left Algeria to settle in France. According to their lawyer, they have since obtained their papers, live in an apartment and wish to raise the three children in France to respect their daughter’s wishes.

This decision comes as six police officers will go to the disciplinary council on Tuesday, January 4. They are accused of errors of appreciation that led to the death of Chahinez Daoud, burned alive in the street by her husband, on May 4. A month and a half earlier, in March, she had filed a complaint for violence against the man who had already been sentenced to prison for domestic violence.
