Saint Martin de Chablis collegiate church

Rebuilt from the 1220s, the church is largely inspired by the cathedral of Sens.

Its leaves are covered with horseshoes posed by pilgrims imploring the healing of their mounts. They therefore asked for the protection of Saint-Martin who was the patron saint of horsemen at the time.

The Lerouge family

Peter the Red is established as a printer, engraver and illuminator in Chablis in 1478.

Settled later in Paris, he was named king’s printer and works for several booksellers, printing in particular “The Dance of the Dead” or “the Dance of Death“.
