The Stampeders (8-4) have won three of their last four outings.
The Elks (3-10) tied an unenviable Canadian Football League record by suffering a 14e consecutive defeat at home. They haven’t won at Commonwealth Stadium since Oct. 12, 2019. The record was set by the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1988.
The evening for the Elks got off to a bad start when on their first offensive possession, Trumaine Washington returned an interception from 45 yards for a major.
The Edmonton squad tied the game a few minutes later when quarterback Taylor Cornelius threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Tanner Green. The stampede, however, began thereafter.
Stevens had his first two touchdowns of the game before the end of the first quarter. The two teams traded field goals and the Stampeders returned to the locker room with a 27-13 halftime lead.
After the Stampeders added two points on a safety touchdown, Stevens once again crossed the goal line to extend the lead to 35-13. The quarterback earned his fourth major of the game with less than 12 minutes remaining.
