CFL | The Argonauts secure their playoff spot by beating the Blue Bombers 14-11

(Winnipeg) The Argonauts defense managed seven sacks and the Toronto team won 14-11 over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night to secure their place in the playoffs.

The victory of the Argonauts (9-7), which officially eliminates the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, also allows them to climb to second place in the East section, one point ahead of the Ottawa Rouge et Noir (8-6-1) , who will face the Montreal Alouettes on Monday.

This defeat for the Blue Bombers ended their eight winning streak.

The Manitoba team could still secure first place in the West Division on Saturday if the Saskatchewan Roughriders lose or draw against the British Columbia Lions.

With the Argonauts leading 13-4 late in the fourth quarter, Zach Collaros threw a long incomplete pass to Kenny Lawler in the end zone, but the Argonauts defense was punished down the stretch.

Backup quarterback Terry Wilson then scored a rushing touchdown to make it 13-11 with 4:29 left in the final quarter.

When the Bombers had the ball again, Collaros was the victim of a seventh sack. He ran on a third down and 17, but narrowly missed.

Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly completed 16 of 23 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown.

Collaros completed 23 of 30 passes for 249 yards and one interception.

Argonauts running back Ka’Deem Carey had 39 yards on five carries, which allowed him to reach the 1,000-yard plateau this season.

Brady Oliveira of the Blue Bombers had 64 yards on 12 carries and 41 yards on six receptions.
