(Regina) The Calgary Stampeders knocked the Saskatchewan Roughriders out of playoff contention with a 32-21 victory on Saturday night.

Heading into the weekend’s games, the Roughriders held a slim chance of advancing to the playoffs, as they tied for third in the East Division with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The Tiger-Cats defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 30-27 on Friday night, and Saturday’s loss to the Roughriders spelled the end of their season. Team Saskatchewan will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
The Roughriders, who have gone 2-10 in their last 12 outings, are 6-11 this season after losing their sixth straight game at home.
After a first half that featured six field goals, four by Stampeders kicker Rene Paredes and two by Roughriders kicker Brett Lauther, the two teams totaled three touchdowns in the third quarter.
Ka’Deem Carey and Dedrick Mills both crossed the goal line on a two-yard run for the Stampeders (11-6). Shaq Evans caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Mason Fine for the Roughriders.
Richie Sindani caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Jake Maier in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for the Roughriders.
Mario Alford got the crowd going in the final minute by returning a punt 104 yards for a major. He is the first player in Roughriders history to score a touchdown on a kickoff return, a punt return and a failed field goal return in the same season.
