The Montreal Alouettes placed starting quarterback Cody Fajardo on six-game injured reserve Wednesday.
Fajardo, the MVP of the last Grey Cup final, did not practice this week after injuring his hamstring late in the first quarter of a 37-18 loss to the Toronto Argonauts on July 11.
Caleb Evans will take Fajardo’s place behind center. The Alouettes have won two games in 2023 with Evans as the starter.
The 26-year-old quarterback completed 12 of 22 passes for 127 yards against the Argonauts. He threw two touchdowns and had two interceptions.
Fajardo ranks fourth in the Canadian Football League in passing yards (1,636) and touchdowns (10). He has the CFL’s best passing efficiency rating at 77.5 percent.
The Alouettes lead the Eastern Division with a 5-1 record. Their next opponent, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, also has a 5-1 record.
