The Montreal Alouettes have signed a contract extension to quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and wide receiver Eugene Lewis.
The Alouettes confirmed the news Thursday, specifying that Adams was linked with the team until 2023 and that Lewis would be back for the 2022 season.
The 28-year-old Adams played eight games with the Alouettes in 2021, completing 142 of his 239 passes for 1949 yards. He threw 14 touchdown passes and suffered 9 interceptions.
Adams’ season came to an end on Oct. 11, however, when he injured his shoulder in a 20-16 win over the Ottawa Rouge et Noir.
As a starter in the Canadian Football League, Adams is 17-10. In 2019, he helped the Alouettes make the playoffs for the first time since 2014, finishing second on the Canadian Tour with 24 touchdown passes and tied for first place with 12 majors on floor.
In 2021, Lewis was third in the CFL with 964 yards on 62 catches, in addition to making 9 touchdowns. Also 28, he was selected to the league’s all-star team.
In four seasons with the Alouettes, Lewis caught 185 balls, for gains of 3,044 yards and 18 touchdowns. He played his college football with the Penn State University Nittany Lions and the University of Oklahoma Sooners.
