Even after the first three losses to start the season, CF Montreal knew they were going to recover. Seven games later, he’s riding a record streak and confidence at its peak.
The Bleu-Blanc-Noir continued their winning streak by dominating Orlando City SC 4-1 on Saturday and remaining undefeated in their last seven outings (5-0-2) to set a club in MLS.
The most impressive thing about the Montreal camp is that the team opened the valves offensively during this sequence. She now sits atop the Eastern Conference for most goals scored (20).
And the attack is diversified. On Saturday, there were four different scorers against Orlando City SC, including defender Joel Waterman, who scored his first MLS goal. Last week, against Atlanta United, it was defender Kamal Miller who moved the ropes.
Since the start of the season, no less than ten different CF Montreal players have hit the mark.
“Everyone is on the board, be it defenders, midfielders or forwards. Collectively, we score at the right times, Waterman observed. At the start of the campaign, it was difficult for us to be abroad, and there was the CONCACAF Champions League too. There is nothing different in the way we work, but we are starting to establish our rhythm. It’s still early days and we want more for this team. »
During their unbeaten streak, CF Montreal held off Atlanta United (twice), FC Cincinnati, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union and Orlando City SC. These five teams are in the playoffs in the East right now.
A sign that confidence reigns among Wilfried Nancy’s men, they won in many ways, they held on late in the game to protect their advances and they knew how to get the big goals at the right time to saw off their opponents’ legs.
“Every day, from training to training, I see my players trying to be better. The players are confident, and Saturday’s victory is the reward, said Nancy. We have a good feeling about our ability to attack and defend. Everything is going so fast. We are on a good streak at the moment and we have to continue. »
The thing that seemed most noticeable during the Montrealers’ victory at the expense of Orlando City SC was how the chemistry seems to be very well established between the players.
Several of the attacking plays looked well-planned and well-prepared in training, and the players look like they have blind faith in the skill of their teammates.
“The chemistry in the team is excellent. Training is going really well, and we are working hard to maintain our level, said Quebecer Mathieu Choinière. Waterman, who is in his third year with the team, has taken the same route as Choinière.

CF Montreal will now head to North Carolina to put their streak to the test against Charlotte FC on Saturday. The MLS expansion club will first travel to Virginia to face the Richmond Kickers on Wednesday in the US Cup of Soccer.
