CF Montreal would have acquired another defender

A week after formalizing the arrival of fullback George Campbell, CF Montreal would have once again bailed out its defensive brigade by acquiring Aaron Herrera.

This is what journalist Tom Bogert said on Twitter on Tuesday.

The Impact is expected to send Real Salt Lake a general allocation sum of $500,000, a first-round pick in the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft and an international berth to secure Herrera’s services.

The 25-year-old New Mexico native plays primarily as a right-back. He will thus fill in the departure of Alistair Johnston, who joined Celtic FC.

Herrera has played 124 games in MLS since joining the league in 2018. He has scored one goal and added 19 career assists.

On June 24, he signed a contract extension with the Utah team. His agreement is valid until 2024 and comes with two option years.

In addition, he represented the United States once on the international scene in a friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago in 2021.

This would be the second defensive addition for CF Montreal since the start of the offseason. Central defender George Campbell was acquired from Atlanta United FC last week.

Remember that the Bleu-Blanc-Noir must also make up for the loss of Djordje Mihailovic, Ismaël Koné and Victor Wanyama.
