CF Montreal wins against Orlando City and signs a record

CF Montreal players showed all their offensive talent to defeat Orlando City SC 4 to 1 on Saturday afternoon at Stade Saputo, establishing a team record of unbeaten matches in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The Bleu-Blanc-Noir’s previous record streak of six games was set in 2016 and 2021. Wilfried Nancy’s men are on a phenomenal streak with five wins and two draws in their last seven outings, which has also given them allowed to climb to third place in the Eastern Conference.

The Étoile du Nord, the giant bell that accompanies CF Montreal’s goals, thrilled fans throughout the game. The crowd favorites scored twice in the final 10 minutes to confirm their win.

Joaquin Torres and Zachary Brault-Guillard returned the favor by combining their efforts on these two sequences. The Quebec defender’s goal was the best of the game, when his off-center shot hit the side net to the right of Pedro Gallese, with a shot that was as lively as it was precise.

Waterman’s first

In the first half, Joel Waterman opened his counter with the Football Club by scoring on a corner kick. The centre-back was in an offside position when the shot was taken, but the video replay showed that it was Orlando player Benji Michel who gave him the ball, which nullified any dispute.

This season, no one has more goals in the squad than midfielder Djordje Mihailovic, who added a fifth in the 52nd minute.

CF Montreal directed no less than 20 shots towards the Gallese cage, including 10 on target.

Piette among the starters

In the absence of Victor Wanyama and Ismaël Koné, unavailable for accumulation of cards, Nancy had lined up in midfield Mathieu Choinière and Samuel Piette, who were both starting a match for the first time since their return from injury. It was the 112th start in MLS for the latter, who joined Patrice Bernier in third place in club history in this regard.

Montreal will play its next two matches on the road, starting with a meeting with Charlotte FC next Saturday.
