The last time CF Montreal conceded a goal at Stade Saputo was on April 15. Having finally made their field a fortress, the Bleu-Blanc-Noir will put their streak into play on Saturday against New York City FC.
Lately, shutouts have been piling up in Montreal, mainly thanks to Jonathan Sirois’ performance in net. In Major League Soccer (MLS), CF have silenced opposing attacks six times in a row.

“We can’t think of this statistic, admitted head coach Hernan Losada on Thursday at a press conference. It’s important to play our way and add points at home, in front of our fans. If we can keep the score at zero, of course that gives confidence.
The Argentinian admits that shutouts are welcome lately, since the attack is often silent.
“We don’t want to concede goals, we want shutouts,” winger Ariel Lassiter said. […] It gives us opportunities to score, because we know how to create chances.
two extremes
On the opposite end of the spectrum, NYCFC have yet to win in 11 games on opposing courts. The only other team to show such a weak record is Toronto FC (0 in 10). A certain history was created with the Big Apple club last year, when it eliminated Montreal in the playoffs.
“They haven’t lost their last five games, but they haven’t won either,” Losada said. They had tough trips to Portland, Atlanta and Salt Lake City, and they took points. It’s always a tough team [à affronter] and with many qualities. We will take this game very seriously.”
Nevertheless, Nick Cushing’s troupe have not scored a victory, either abroad or at home, since April 22. CF Montreal will have to remain cautious to ensure that this 12-game series does not end against them.
In the locker room, confidence reigns.
“I think we are so good at home because we have a good mindset and we say to ourselves that no matter which team sets foot on our ground, we can get the three points,” said assured Lassiter.
The match between Montreal and New York will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Quebec team will also play its next game at Stade Saputo, on July 8 against Atlanta United.
