CF Montreal will honor its supporters by retiring a number

CF Montreal has announced that it will retire number 12 on Sunday, during the duel against Real Salt Lake on the lawn of the Saputo stadium.

“This gesture aims to underline the importance and the contribution of the club’s supporters, engines of the atmosphere at the Saputo stadium, who transmit this additional energy to the 11 players on the field”, could we read in the press release sent by the club. .

The number 12 will therefore be retired forever, and no CF Montreal player will be able to wear it, it was specified.

A permanent banner will also be installed inside the stadium, thus reviving a tradition that was created in 2012, when the club entered the Garber circuit. However, the initiative was abandoned in 2020.

The Montreal organization added that it will invite for the occasion some former players of the team who wore the number 12, including Patrick Diotte (1993-1998, 2000-2001), Eduardo Sebrango (2002-2005, 2009- 2010), Sandro Grande (2008) and Amir Lowery (2011).

The ceremony will take place during the half-time of the match.

CF Montreal lost 2-1 to Nashville SC Wednesday night in Tennessee, and are now third in the Eastern Conference behind the Philadelphia Union and Orlando City.

The team is due to present a new logo to its fans on May 27. The club’s new image and name, presented in January 2021, had caused controversy among supporters.
