Additionally, the Montreal team secured a general allocation amount of $100,000 in 2024 from the LAFC for an international berth in 2023.

“We are very happy with this acquisition. He is a young player who already has a good experience in the league, in particular having won the MLS Cup last year by being a decisive player with the LAFC”, declared in a press release the vice-president and chief of the sports director of CF Montreal, Olivier Renard.

“He will be able to give us something different from the other players we have in terms of his speed and his ability to play one-on-one. This is a profile that we lacked in our workforce. I am convinced that he will be able to continue his progress with us,” added Renard.

Aged 21, the player from Ghana played three and a half seasons with the California team. He played 60 regular season games, including 35 starts, totaling 3254 minutes of play. Opoku had a total of nine goals as well as seven assists.

He won the MLS Cup with the Los Angeles team. The striker played four games during the last Garber Tour playoffs. In addition, he moved the ropes in his old side’s 3-0 triumph in the Western Conference final against Austin FC last October.
