CF Montreal prefers to see the bright side of things

CF Montreal are calling their last two-game stint abroad a winning trip, though the results have been mixed.

The Montreal club (9-7-2) started their journey in fine style by collecting three points on the lawn of the Seattle Sounders, champions of the Concacaf Champions League, with a 2-1 victory. It was in the second duel of this journey that things went less well: CF Montreal was mistreated 4-0 by the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The head coach, Wilfried Nancy, and the rest of the club are optimistic, even if the last game ended on a bad note, while the team will be back at the Saputo stadium. On the menu: Sporting Kansas City, the worst team in the West with a 4-11-4 record, against whom it will cross swords on Saturday.

“Analyzing the game, the data says we had a better performance against Los Angeles than against Seattle. These data do not say everything, but it gives a positive aspect to this game, Nancy said. People can say what they want if they haven’t watched the game and only see the 4-0 result. But if you’ve watched it, that’s a whole different story. »

CF Montreal slipped to fourth in the East with the loss in Los Angeles, but they still have a few games in hand in this race for first place. This clash against Sporting is therefore ideal to add a victory and move up the standings.

Kansas City has just one win in its last six MLS outings and has the league’s worst differential, having allowed 17 more goals than it has scored. But Western clubs are used to showing up at home in Montreal and coming away with all three points this season.

Sporting also have what to build for this clash: they have lost only one of the last eight games against Montreal, including a crushing 7-1 victory in their last meeting, the worst defeat for CF in the Garber circuit. .

“To play against clubs that are at the bottom of the table and that come from the other association is a double-edged sword. It’s good to be in front of your fans, but Austin FC and Real Salt Lake hurt us here, captain Samuel Piette said. Displacement and jet lag work against them, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get those points. It’s a game we take very seriously. »
