It was a given, but now it will be a done deal. Former superstar Nacho Piatti will be inducted into the CF Montreal Wall of Fame.
A special ceremony will be held during halftime of the team’s next home game on Saturday. Charlotte FC will be the visitor. The main player will arrive in the city later this week and will participate in a press conference on the subject on Thursday.
The Argentinian becomes the 6e player of the organization to see his name appear on the Wall of Fame. Former captain Patrice Bernier was inducted in 2023, following Mauro Biello, Greg Sutton, Nevio Pizzolitto and Gabriel Gervais.
Ignacio Piatti played 135 games with the Bleu-blanc-noir, scoring 66 goals and 35 assists. He was named to the MLS Starting XI of the Year twice, in addition to participating in the All-Star Game in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He led the Bleu-blanc-noir to the Canadian title in 2019 and helped Montreal reach a historic Concacaf Champions Cup final at Olympic Stadium in 2015. He also led the Impact to the Eastern Conference final during the 2016 MLS Cup playoffs.
Nacho was awarded the title of the Impact’s most important player four times, a record in the club’s history.
He was transferred by CF Montreal in 2020 to the club San Lorenzo, in Argentina. Piatti then wanted to return to his native country.
The team had obtained midfielder Emanuel Maciel in return for his services.
To access the Wall of Fame, it is necessary to have played a minimum of 100 games with CF Montréal/Impact, to have won an individual or team honour and to have retired from professional soccer for at least five years. This year, the CFM has made a change to the selection criteria, namely having played a first game with the club at least 10 years ago, rather than 15 years ago.
