CF Montreal announced the end of its association with vice-president and chief sports officer Olivier Renard on Thursday.
The club clarified that the decision was taken by mutual agreement. He added that the president and CEO of CF Montreal, Gabriel Gervais, will act as interim sports director of the organization.
“I would like to thank Olivier for his dedication, his passion and his work within the organization since 2019,” Gervais said in a press release. He played an important role in the development and implementation of the Club’s sporting philosophy. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. »
Renard was hired as sports director on September 28, 2019. He was then promoted to vice-president and chief sports officer in June 2022, when he signed an indefinite contract extension.
“To the entire club, the players, the staff, the fans and the Saputo family, I thank you for these years in Montreal,” Renard said in a press release. I am proud to have participated in the growth of CF Montreal, to have orchestrated a sporting identity at the Club and I will keep unforgettable memories of it. »
The rumor of Renard’s departure had been circulating in various media since Tuesday. The Press had reported that a disagreement between Renard and owner Joey Saputo in the matter of Mathieu Choinière’s contract renewal had been the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Radio-Canada clarified that Saputo only wanted to grant $350,000 to Choinière, who was asking for around $600,000 — an amount that Renard was prepared to give him.
Online media The Athletic reported last week that Choinière had requested to be traded.
Gervais will meet the media Friday morning. The club hosts Inter Miami on Saturday at Saputo Stadium.
