(Montreal) CF Montreal have added depth in midfield, having lost Djordje Mihailovic and Ismaël Koné in that position during the offseason.
The Bleu-blanc-noir announced that it had acquired 21-year-old Canadian midfielder Ilias Iliadis on Friday afternoon.
Iliadis, who hails from Toronto, agreed to a two-year contract, for 2023 and 2024, with two option years, for 2025 and 2026.
“We are very happy to offer the chance to a young Canadian to join us and evolve at the level of MLS, declared the Vice-President and Chief Sports Officer of CF Montreal, Olivier Renard. He is a southpaw who can play in all positions in central midfield. He had several years of training in a big Greek club.
Iliadis holds dual Canadian and Greek citizenship and played his minor soccer with Scarborough Olympic Flame SC. After attending an Academy camp with English club Arsenal in Greece, the midfielder joined the Academy with Greek club Panathinaikos in January 2015.
In August 2021, Iliadis joined the ranks of Panathinaikos B, playing a total of 34 games and scoring two goals in Super League 2, Greece.
Internationally, Iliadis played two games for the Greek national under-17 team, making his senior debut on February 6, 2018.
Iliadis’ arrival in Montreal coincides with persistent rumors regarding the departure of Argentinian midfielder Joaquin Torres. MLS informant Tom Bogert relayed information that the Philadelphia Union had discussions with CF Montreal to acquire Torres, but there is still nothing concrete in this file.
