Center of Quebec | One dead and nine injured in collision between van and car

A woman died and several other people were injured following a face-to-face encounter between a van and a car overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, in the municipality of Saint-Christophe-d’Arthabaska, in the Centre-du-Quebec.


A dozen people were involved in this accident which occurred around midnight on Route 116.

The van was diverted from its lane for an as yet unknown reason, then hit a car traveling in the opposite direction, said a spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Béatrice Dorsainville.

“In total, there are ten people involved in the collision, nine suffered injuries and were taken to hospital, but there is no fear for their lives. On the other hand, the death of a rear passenger of the small vehicle, a lady in her seventies, was observed at the hospital centre,” mentioned Ms.me Dorsainville.

Two specialized collision investigators were dispatched to the scene of the accident in order to better understand the causes and circumstances which led to the frontal collision.

Route 116 was closed to traffic until 7 a.m. Thursday morning.
